Scenic Designer and Maker
I am a collaborative artist: I work as one piece of a larger idea that I could not make alone. This is extremely exciting to me! It is beautiful to mix the ideas of many to create a production (a play), which in turn is interpreted by many, exploding ideas outward again.
I also believe that by creating with our hands, we gain a deeper understanding of our world. I've learned how raw oak can become furniture, how paper can become scenery, and how a single wire can become a wearable rhino head, but most of all I've learned each different project will teach me anew. Playfulness, curiosity, and vision drive my practice.
I studied at Macalester College where I earned a BA degree in Studio Art. After graduation, I worked as a scenic painter and props artisan in a variety of theaters around the Twin Cities before going back to school to get an MFA in Scenic Design at the University of Minnesota’s Theatrical Design and Technology Program. I currently freelance with theaters, schools, and other organizations to create plays and other immersive experiences.
